EventMAP’s unique Optime Audit space utilisation methodology delivers results at King’s College London

EventMAP carry out a large-scale study in the utilisation of teaching space at Kings College London

January 4, 2023

EventMAP was again chosen by KCL to carry out a large-scale study in the utilisation of teaching space. This is the first such study at the university since the pandemic.

EventMAP Deployed some twenty staff, to survey all teaching space across five campuses. Optime Audit allowed the survey team to accurately record utilisation data, using electronic data capture devices. This allowed usage to be efficiently analysed, and reported on, in almost real time. Optime Audit also allows observational survey data to be overlaid onto other data sources to better understand and analyse space use.

Whilst EventMAP provided a team of individuals to undertake the survey and data collection; Optime Audit does provide the facility for client sites to undertake the survey activity independently, allowing them to use the artificial intelligence in Audit to manage the calculating and reporting of space use. Other methods of occupancy data capture can also be used, such as attendance data, room sensor data, or that collected from room access-systems.

The ongoing use of the Audit tool at KCL provides the university with even more flexibility, as they are able to cut the data in a wide variety of ways to fully understand space use across the institution. Fully understanding how space is currently being used is a valuable precursor to exercises in modelling and planning the use and profile of space for future needs.
